Culinary experience at NOPI London

"NOPI" in London, England, is a renowned restaurant that belongs to the culinary world of Israeli chef Yotam Ottolenghi, known for his innovative cookbooks and creative cuisine. Located in the heart of Soho, it marked Ottolenghi's first step into the realm of full-service restaurants after achieving success with his delis in London. Since its opening in 2011, "NOPI" has established itself as a place that unites global flavors, offering a unique fusion of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Asian influences. It caters to guests seeking both the vibrant atmosphere of a modern restaurant and a tastefully sophisticated experience.

Mediterranean and Asian cuisine fusion

The atmosphere at "NOPI" is elegant yet relaxed, characterized by stylish design that sets it apart from the more casual Ottolenghi delis. The interior features white marble surfaces, gold brass accents, and dynamic artworks that create an elevated yet inviting mood. The restaurant is divided into two levels: the upper area has smaller tables for a more intimate setting, while the lower level—known as "Downstairs"—offers two large communal tables that overlook the open kitchen. This unconventional seating arrangement encourages communal dining and provides guests with a glimpse into the bustling yet precise work of the chefs. The vibe is lively, especially in the evenings when the restaurant is often busy, and the staff is appreciated for their friendliness and competence.

Culinarily, "NOPI" is known for a cuisine that plays with bold colors and intense flavors, with dishes adjusted seasonally. A highlight is the "Roasted Aubergine," a roasted eggplant with black garlic, yogurt, and pine nuts, praised for its deep spiciness and creamy texture. Equally impressive is the "Twice-Cooked Baby Chicken," a tender chicken that achieves crispy skin and juicy meat through double preparation, served with an aromatic sauce. For seafood lovers, the "Seared Sea Bass" with coconut sauce offers a delicate balance of lightness and exotic flavor. Desserts are also an experience, such as the "Pistachio and Rose Water Semifreddo," which provides an elegant finish with its creamy consistency and floral notes. The dishes are often meant for sharing, emphasizing the social aspect of dining.

Unique dishes at NOPI restaurant

The drink menu perfectly complements the food, featuring cocktails that utilize seasonal ingredients and homemade syrups—such as a drink with pandan leaf and citrus notes that reflect the Asian influences in the cuisine. There is also a carefully curated list of low-intervention wines that enhance the flavors of the dishes. The breakfast offerings are noteworthy as well, with dishes like "Shakshuka" with smoked labneh, bringing Ottolenghi’s Israeli roots to the plate and providing a hearty option to start the day.

WHEN THE PASSION IS GONE, We had a great dinner on a weekday. Food & service on par. Nevertheless it felt like the whole place was running on an automatic pilot, well managed both in the back and front, but missing vibe and passion.

Food was fair to good. Service was acceptable. Four of us eating. My partner's manager from the US paid; I don't know the final bill. I'd like to share my three thoughts: Our guest's Prosecco was served in a wine glass, my wine glass was cracked but I decided not to make a fuss of this fact in front of our guests and space around our table, next to the window, was tight - service consisted of passing drink and food through / between our guests to my partner and I closest to the window, interrupting conversation.

Literally one of the best meals I've ever had. It was storytelling on a plate. The parsnips took me to a rich family friend at Christmas. The beetroot and goat cheese took me to a fresh cold morning in the Swiss Alps. I couldn't fault it. Except the courgettes were a bit too rich, I would add more zest. Staff were very chill and not too friendly. Not too loud thank GOD. I could hear myself, my party, the music, and ambience. In a word: excellence.

Amazing lunch! We ordered many different things to share, of which every dish was exquisite! The risotto wasn't quite to my taste, but the others loved it. We went veggie only, which makes me want to come back and try some of the meat and fish dishes. It was very busy, and I think the service could have been a bit more attentive, but they were polite and friendly. I've been to Rovi before, which also has been incredible. It's obviously a treat but worth it. It tastes absolutely delicious, the presentation is beautiful, the restaurant is stunning, and with all these incredible fresh ingredients, you even feel as if you've fuled your body with all the good stuff.

Absolutely love our lunch visit at NOPI! The food is amazing, with bold flavours and a variety of textures. Highly recommend trying the pork belly, the seabass (main dish), the tiger prawns and chickpea tofu. I'd say this place has a more Mediterranean taste than ROVI (both are equally great and have their own unique goodness). The service is super attentive. Also the Malva dessert cake is a must! Can't wait to come back.

Creative blend of flavors and cooking techniques. Small plates allowed for tasting of different dishes. Price slight on the higher side but worth the exploration of a well known chef’s work. Busy restaurant and service is on the slow side . Servers are however friendly and knowledgeable. Not an everyday restaurant but recommended if seeking a food adventure!

The food at NOPI was simply outstanding. Every dish was beautifully presented, bursting with bold and balanced flavors. Ottolenghi’s signature style was evident in every bite, with creative combinations that felt both surprising and perfectly harmonious. From the vibrant mezzes to the richly layered mains, each plate was a true delight. Verdict: Absolutely worth the hype.

Really, really loved the atmosphere of this dining room! White and clean, but felt homey and well decorated at the same time. Service was really great, it felt like a real treat to dine here. Also gluten free menu is very extensive. Favourite dishes were the duck and aubergine.
